Youth at St Mark’s

St. Mark’s offers a variety of opportunities for the young people in our congregation aimed at growing their relationship with Christ and self-forgetful service to others. Youth from 6th grade through 12th are invited to participate in Youth Spiritual Formation class this fall from 9:15–10:15 a.m. on Sunday mornings. We offer outings for youth to provide additional occasions for fellowship, service, and outreach. We also encourage youth to use their gifts to bless the church through serving as lectors, choristers, acolytes and by participating in leadership activities of the church including exploring and serving on various church groups and committees.

Youth Formation

Youth Formation Class

Youth at St. Mark’s engage with Mtr. Holly and the Journey to Adulthood curriculum in deepening their relationship to Jesus, asking questions, and exploring topics around Spirituality, Self, and Society. What does it mean to be an inquiring, faithful disciple of Jesus who walks the way of love in the 21st Century? Some of the holy habits we will cultivate include: prayer & meditation, reflecting on scripture, serving others, and participating in the life of the parish. We’ll practice holding paradoxes, asking questions, and articulating our faith in a way that is personally relevant and authentic. All are welcome. Come as you are!

Confirmation

Beginning in Eastertide, and continuing until Pentecost, interested youth 10th grade and up are invited to participate in a confirmation class. This class will focus on learning to understand our lives in light of the Gospel with an emphasis on the practice of prayer, dwelling on scripture beyond mere literalism, the cultivation of holy habits, and related spiritual disciplines. Youth will also be introduced to ways to serve others in the parish and beyond, including Godly Play story-telling, serving in the liturgy, and participating in the councils of the church.

The Rite of Confirmation is offered by our bishop on the Day of Pentecost, May 19, 2024.
