Youth at St Mark’s

St. Mark’s offers a variety of opportunities for the young people in our congregation aimed at strengthening their relationship with Christ and encouraging self-forgetful service to others. We also encourage youth to use their gifts to bless the church by serving as lectors, choristers, acolytes and participating in leadership activities at the church.

Formation

“Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity".” (1 Timothy 4:12)

We believe that youth are more than capable of wrestling with tough questions, so young people ages 13-17 are invited to join our weekly formation classes. Formation is a vehicle for confronting questions in our faith and growing in the knowledge and love of God. Formation classes are held at 9:15 on Sunday mornings and are led by a priest or other qualified instructor.

Youth Group

On the last Sunday of each month, St. Mark’s youth come together for Youth Group, a time of fellowship and learning about God. Mtr. Holly and Children’s Formation Coordinator Alexandra Bishop lead young people in fun activities, games, and conversations about what it means to be a Christian. Please refer to the calendar for more information about activities.

Confirmation

Beginning in Eastertide, and continuing until Pentecost, interested youth 10th grade and up are invited to participate in a confirmation class. This class will focus on learning to understand our lives in light of the Gospel with an emphasis on the practice of prayer, dwelling on scripture, the cultivation of holy habits, and related spiritual disciplines. Young people will also be introduced to ways to serve others in the parish and beyond, including Godly Play story-telling, serving in the liturgy, and participating in the councils of the church.

The Rite of Confirmation is offered by our bishop on the Day of Pentecost, June 8 2025.
